On Monday, my youngest son’s Pre-K class took a field trip to the airport. They have been studying transportation and vehicles, so it seemed like a great time to get some hands on experience at the hangar. My brother-in-law did a great job of putting together a brief program that included walk-arounds of a jet, a Cessna 182 and the Tri-Pacer. We discussed the various control surfaces, the basics of lift and let them sit in the cockpits. Flight was further demonstrated with a small lightweight r/c plane in the hangar. The kids then enjoyed making paper airplanes and competing to see who could fly theirs the farthest.
The class really seemed to enjoy the outing. I hope they got just a glimpse of how much fun can be had at an airport.
